Lateraldiffusionofasinglepolyelectrolyteprobe,poly(2-vinylpyridine)(P2VP),onthesurfaceofthermoresponsivepoly(N-isopropylacrylamide)(PNIPAM)brusheswasstudiedbyfluorescencecorrelationspectroscopy.MeasurementswereconductedataconditionofalowpHvalueandalowsaltconcentration,underwhichtheP2VPchainisfullychargedandatitsextendedcoilconformation.Thetemperaturedependenceofthesurfacediffusioncoefficient(Ds)ofP2VPwasstudiedatvaryingPNIPAMthickness,inwhichDsincreasedwiththeelevationoftemperatureandreachedamaximumvaluearound32-35Cbeforeitdroppedatfurtherincreasedtemperature.Theexperimentalresultsindicatealineardependenceofthefrictionforceexperiencedbytheprobeonthebrushthickness.ThethermovariationofDsdemonstratesthedecreaseofthesurfacefrictionforceattemperaturelowerthan32-35CduetothedecreaseofthesolventviscosityandasharpincreaseaftertheLCSTtransitionbecauseofthechangeofthePNIAPMchainrigidity.
